Incorrect payment reference on bank transfer

Hi - I made a payment via fast payment bank transfer 3 days ago for simple assessment outstanding tax owed for 2023/24 and used the wrong payment reference. The amount is still showing as being unpaid on my personal tax account - the reference I used included my NI number - will HMRC be able to assign the payment ?
