I am currently living in rented accomodation after selling our main residence in October 2023. I was planning to purchase a new main residence at the same time as selling the old one but the purchase fell through due to some difficulties with the Management company structure of the new home. I also own an apartment whichh is rented to a long term tenant. The question I have is will I be liable for the secondary stamp duty when we purchase a new main residence which we are planning to do before the end of 2024 and if so will I be able to claim a refund as this is technically replacing the main residence.
