Good morning, I arrived in the UK after living overseas for 4 years on July 7th 2005. I registered for childcare and payments started from August 2005. However I did not receive any NI credits for 2005-2006 in my state pension. I did receive credits for my state pension from 2006 onwards. Should I have received NI credits for 2005-2006? If so can I claim these credits back?

Hi,
When in receipt of a Child Benefit you gain credits through an award of Home Responsibilities Protection (HRP) providing you turn State Pension age after 5 April 2010 .
For HRP to be awarded, we must have paid you Child Benefit for a child under the age of 16 for the full tax year. A tax year runs from 6 April to 5 April. Since 2005 was the first tax year you started to receive a Child Benefit, you were not claiming Child Benefit for a child under 16 for the full tax year and no credits will have been awarded.
Thank you.
