I have been living and working in HK for more than 8 years. In 2023- I finished my HK contract in August and returned to UK on August 10th. I paid HK tax on my HK salary from April 5 to August 10. Since being in UK from August 10 2023- my only income is from a property in UK. Will be HK salary which I’ve already cleared tax on be re assessed by UK and will I have to pay UK tax on it as tax rate in UK is higher than in HK? Or because I have already paid HK tax….will the double tax treaty between HK and UK mean HK salary income remains only taxed in HK and not again in UK? I don’t think split year applies as I have been non uk tax resident for more than 8 of the previous tax years but since I was in UK from August 10, 2023….i guess im UK tax resident for 2023-24. It’s confusing

Hi,
Under the terms of the double taxation treaty, the income from work carried out in Hong Kong is only taxable there.
Thank you.
