Can I gift money to an Australian citizen without it being subject to the IHT gift limit rules? I am a UK resident (British nationality) and the recipient lives permanently in Australia. For example, if I sent £20,000 as a personal gift and if I died within 7 years, would this gift potentially count towards IHT liability, or would it be totally exempt from UK tax as the recipient is Australian? I know that there is no IHT in Australia, so I am just looking at this from the perspective of UK tax rules.
