I am US citizen and currently in a stipend-paid research role with a UK university under the Gov't Authorised Exchange (GAE) visa scheme. The role is termed a "Fellowship" by the university. The role is for 10 months and paid a total of 27,300 pounds. No taxes are taken out before receipt of payment by me. Is my income subject to taxes and should I be filing taxes in the UK? Furthermore, the research role runs from October to July. The UK tax year runs from 6 of April to 5 of April. Am I correct to assume I will have to file taxes twice? For the payments I receive from October '24 to April '25 for the tax period ending April 5, 2025; and then from May '25 to July '25 for the tax period ending April 5, 2026? Thank you. Thank you.
