Hi All If I am unemployed and my wife is employed getting paid annually around £50k, can I pay national insurance voluntarily to make us qualify for 30hrs free childcare? If I can, which type should I pay? Class 2 or Class 3 please? Many thanks Jon

Hi,
The eligibility calculator for free childcare is here:
Check you're eligible for free childcare if you're working
There is a section entitled ‘If you’re not currently working’ which you should check:
Class 2 NICs can only be paid if you are self employed.
Class 3 NICs only count towards basic State Pension
Thank you.
