Is it possible for an Irish company to get a VAT number, Hiw long does the process take ?

If the Irish company is making taxable supplies in the UK, then yes it can register for UK VAT. Registration can take approx. 40 working days, sometimes quicker, sometimes longer depending on resources HMRC have available (peaks and troughs, more companies register for VAT in April as its the start of a new financial year, for example).

Thanks Jason, also wondering if I was to open a U.K. company would we avail of the VAT exemption threshold, with the company registered to our U.K. business address

Hi,

You can request a VAT number if you are making taxable supplies in the UK.You can therefore request a VAT number if you are either a UK business or an overseas business.
