Hi all, I have had a personal Government Gateway account for several years whilst working as an employee in various firms. I have recently become a sole trader. I registered accordingly with HMRC and have now received my UTR. Now, when I log into my Gateway account, I see a 'business tax account' heading along the top of my home page, which I can click into. In there, there is an option to 'add a tax'. However, when I follow that link and go through the process to register for VAT, I am told that I "need to use a business tax account for this service", despite the previous page suggesting I already have one. Is it correct that my current Gateway account is still just a personal tax account, despite now being linked to my UTR and me being registered as a sole trader? Am I meant to create a new Gateway account purely to register for VAT? But if so, will I then be left with this new account registered for VAT and my previous, different, account registered for self-assessment, but both being linked to me as a sole trader? Any help appreciated.
