Hi, if a Chinese business applies for UK VAT number, will HMRC only post the VAT certificate to the business's China address? Typically, the Chinese business address is translated into English by pronunciation, which can lead to the VAT certificate being lost in the mail. Can HMRC email the VAT certificate to the business or send it to a UK tax agent address instead? Alternatively, are there any other ways to find or see the VAT certificate online from somewhere? Many thanks.

The VAT certificate can be downloaded through the taxpayers government gateway/VAT portal. The taxpayer must have a government gateway for VAT purposes and the agent cannot use the taxpayers gateway, the agent must use their own agent gateway (ASA) and link to the taxpayers gateway, then the agent can see the VAT certificate of their client.

Hi,

Your VAT certificate will be sent to you in the post. This will go to your principal place of business, given to us on your VAT application

You can view your certificate via your Business Tax Account, but you will first need your VAT number in order to enrol for the service, which then allows you to view the certificate.

Thank you.
