I run a small independent business in Sweden and earlier this year I had some dealings in the UK. For context, here is the extent of my dealings in the UK (this was a one-time occurrence, I have no intention of doing more business in the UK). I sold about 50 physical books to customers in the UK I also sold less than 100 digital copies of the same book in the UK I did two small print runs of the books in the UK. The first print run of 400 books was shipped to Sweden (not intended for UK customers). The second (much smaller) print run was shipped directly to a distributor in the UK who distributed the books to my aforementioned UK customers. According to my advisor I qualify for being exempt from VAT in the UK since all the goods have a 0% VAT rate, but I'm trying to figure out how to apply. I went through the steps in the online portal at https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/register-for-vat/manage-registrations but there is no option for applying for VAT exemption there. Do I need to send a letter to apply for this or where would I be able to find the option for this in the online portal? Would be grateful for any advice on how to go forward with applying for the VAT exemption (if needed at all). Thank you!

Hi ,

On the online portal it will ask the reason you are applying to register at this point you would confirm it is to apply
for exception from registering .

Thank you .

Thank you for your answer. I have now filled in all the parts of the application, but it never gives me the option to confirm that I want to apply for VAT exemption.
