The figure quoted for import VAT on one of my C79s is wrong. I have an invoice from the delivery company that states the correct figures, but the figure quoted on the C79 is a couple of £s out which means I cant claim back the VAT. I've been trying to get the delivery company to amend it but they either can't, or don't want to. Who can I contact at HMRC to amend this for me?

The C79 amount should reflect exactly the import VAT paid to HMRC as this is generated by the customs declaration. It is the C79 that is the proof of the input vat recovery amount not the invoice from the delivery company . It’s hard to provide exact comment on the invoice but The invoice from the delivery company is likely to include the disbursement for any Import VAT they paid on your behalf. It may also include some charges for customs duties and charges they make for them to pay or collect the taxes from you. It’s worth checking details of the invoice.

Hi,
The C79 is automatically produced based on the figures put in to the import declaration so if the C79 is incorrect then I would recommend contacting the shipping agent to make a post import ammendment with us.
If the difference is only a small amount may it possibly be due to the exchange rate used for the value of the goods?
Thank you.

The invoice from the shipping agent breaks down their fees and the import vat so that is how I can see the vat is wrong on the C79. The shipping agent have come back to me today to say HMRC need to amend it and they can’t. Not sure who to direct that request to?

Hi,

Please email the Customs processing team on belfast.pcateam@hmrc.gov.uk, with the details of the record as this department can check the declaration and how it reflects on the C79.

Thank you

Hello - I've just heard back from Customs Processing Team (belfast.pcateam) mentioned above saying that they can't amend C79s and that I need to ring their VAT helpline (0300 200 3700). Thankfully I continued to pursue the delivery company and after 8 months of batting it back and forth they have conceded that their invoice is wrong and sent me an invoice that matches the VAT paid and the C79.
