I hav just checked that my previous property agent charged me VAT on every billing such as agency fee, management fee, refurbishment cost, etc. But in the receipt provided, I cannot find any VAT registration number and I have asked them many times to request to issue me VAT inovice. But the property agent ignored. I suspected that no VAT the property agent need to pay but the agent charged me extra 20% VAT. How can I ensure that my VAT payment was handled properly by agent to HRMC? Thanks.

Legally a VAT registered business will only need to raise a VAT invoice if the customer is another VAT registered business.
