Hi, im banging my head against a wall with ebay. We recently de-registered from VAT online. They are demanding a posted document from the HMRC as below... "I would advise that you contact HMRC and request a letter of de-registration from HMRC, and forward it to me at your earliest convenience. HMRC will post one out to you at your request. " Ive called up the HMRC and had a good conversation with a very helpful member of staff, who also enquired with other departments and she said that no such letter exists or is sent out. They are due to close my sellers account at the end of the month. Is there any way to get a letter such as demanded sent out? They will not accept screenshots from our gov.gateway page, a screen shot of the email confirming we are now deregistered, nothing apart from this seemingly fictitious letter? Best regards

You should receive a standard letter in the post from HMRC confirming you are deregistered, that letter might take 10 days or more to get to you after deregistering. As eBay have also stated, you should be able to call HMRC and ask for a copy of your deregistration letter. Your issue may be that you are asking for a de-registration letter, which may be confusing HMRC as it sounds like something new you are asking for, what you should be asking for is a COPY of the "confirmation of de-registration letter" that HMRC will have sent to you be default already and will already be on your file at HMRC. That letter will go to the address you used when registering for VAT, so if that address is overseas, these letters can get lost in transit and take a little longer to get to you. I'm not aware of HMRC issuing any form of certificate confirming deregistration, eBay and Amazon asks for all sorts of documents that HMRC does not issue, they are simply protecting their own position, not yours.

HMRC Admin 19 I have spoken to three different people now who have said that they cant send this letter. The main advice i got was to write to the Written Enquiries team, which i have done. I spoke to the general help line: 0300 200 3700 (who advised to write to the above department), and twice the deregistration team 0300 322 7821, first time we got disconnected after trying to transfer me having said the letter does not exist , the second time the call handler tried to find a template and said it had been deleted off the system and was no longer valid, and again to write to the above department. I was given a reference for the fist call EMC13923. Is there a specific person / department / phone number i can contact, our ebay account and therefore our income is due to be suspended from 2nd June. I did speak to ebay again, and they wouldn't budge on there point of view. Any help will be very gratefully received. Regards
