I am a private individual, not a business and therefore I am not VAT registered. I recently won an auction of a "2nd hand" item and was asked by eBay to pay VAT. The seller was also a private individual, not a business and not VAT registered. As I said, the item was old and "2nd hand" - for clarity it was a wheel for a vintage car dating from 1940-1950 and the final auction price was £67. The item was listed as "for collection" in Pontefract, West Yorkshire. If I had bought this item at a "car boot sale", "autojumble", or car show where both dealers and private individuals sell items, VAT would be the last thing on anyone's mind and I would have paid the asking price. So, how come eBay is asking customers to pay VAT.

Hello  ,

You would need to contact Ebay as to why the VAT was charged as the seller was a Private individual
VAT can only be charged if you are VAT registred   .

Thank you.
