Vat on fire damaged house rebuilding

My contractor has suggested that I might be able to obtain vat relief on the rebuilding of my fire damaged property. Please advise.

Hi. You can only benefit from vat relief if you are building a new residential property from scratch. If this is the case then the majority of the work will be charged at the zero rate of VAT. Please see the guidance below: Buildings and construction (VAT Notice 708)   .
