Transferring VAT registration

I have attempted to transfer my registration using a paper form VAT8 which was sent to HMRC around 8 weeks ago. The purpose of the form was to transfer VAT registration from my old sole trader position to a new limited company (the sole trader position being wound up). I need to submit VAT returns via MTD but the neither the old account (sole trader) nor the new account are working. I would be very grateful for advice as I cannot currently get support from my accountant. with kind regards,

If you need to change the legal entity of your buusiness and retain the same VAT number then you would need to complete both a VAT 68 and a VAT1. You can see guidance here:
