VAT Registration Time....

I'm probably clutching at straws here but it's my last hope at getting an answer from someone, anybody. My sales were rapidly growing over the summer and figured I'd need to be VAT registered by Christmas, of which I am a already. I put in my VAT application mid July and still haven't heard anything back. I've sent countless emails to HMRC that generally go ignored or 'it is with a special team, i have no update' and every time I call them on 0300 200 3700 I spent 60 minutes+ in the queue before giving up and losing the will to live. I'm assuming they're going to want all the VAT that I've not been charging since my application date, despite the fact I don't have a VAT certification and they seem impossible to get hold of. Any hints or tips? I'm honestly losing the will to live with it all and thinking of downsizing my business to stay under the threshold

Hello, I've been emailing them for months with little to no reply from them. Calls to HMRC have been useless too.
