Hello, I'm a VAT registered Etsy seller (physical and digital goods, mostly US/CA and UK, but other countries as well), and I'm in the process of purchasing a new printer which I need for my business. A UK company offers printers ex Vat, and I'm wondering if I would be eligible to buy from them for the price without VAT? Thanks Peter

That's not what "ex VAT" means. VAT will be charged by the seller of the printer, the price you are being quoted is ex VAT/before VAT, so if the printer is advertised as say £100 ex VAT then you will ned to pay the supplier £100 + £20 VAT and then you can reclaim the £20 VAT on your VAT return (assuming you are a fully taxable business and not partially exempt).

Hi Peter Bernhard,
If you are buying a new printer and it is being charged without VAT then you would need to consider why this new item is being charged without VAT,
If the seller is VAT registered then VAT should apply to the sale of this.
I would recommend challenging the supplier about this .
Thank you.
