I am a member of NATO Visiting Forces, posted in the UK. A relief of VAT for consumer durable goods may be available to me, under certain conditions (VFR03200). I understand that a refund of the VAT may be obtained from HMRC. However, it is not clear to me how it is done or how I can contact HMRC in this matter. Any guidence would be apprechiated. /Mikael

Hi,
If you have been posted to the UK as a member of the NATO visiting forces you will be entitled to claim VAT refunds on some goods purchased in the UK. You will need to speak to your Force Authority/Chain of Command to determine the process, for example if they you assigned to a NATO HQ there will be a POC who collates the claims and submits them for payment.
However, if you are individually assigned you will need to contact your Embassy.
All claim forms are produced by the Visiting Forces and are generally a spreadsheet listing the goods purchased, amount paid and VAT amount.
Thank you.
