Hi all, New here and about to sign up for VAT as reaching the threshold. Just a question on what I can claim for for backdated VAT expenses. I understand that you can claim for products I currently still have for my business purchased within the last 4 years but I also have a garage which I rent from the council. I pay monthly for this garage and it holds all the supplies for my business, I assume I can claim this as an expense and also for VAT going forward but how far can I backdate this VAT expense? I've had this garage for longer than 4 years. Thanks in advance! Lucas.

Hi,

The rent of a garage would be classed as a service and as long as the conditions are met, you can reclaim this up to 6 months prior to VAT registration.

VAT guide (VAT Notice 700)

Thank you.
