Is VAT rate on goods same as VAT rate for imported goods? so when goods are imported and for import correct VAT rate has to be selected, would that be the same VAT rate as if when sold in UK to UK customers? Or VAT rates are different for import and for sale in UK?

In most cases yes that is correct. There are however may some differences as particular commodity codes only have the option of one VAT rate . A particular example is larger children’s shoes which can be zero rated at sale but the correct classification only allows standard rate VAT.

Hi Zuzanna,
The VAT rate on imported goods should be the same VAT rate applied when the goods are sold in the UK.
Thank you,
