Getting VAT ID for a dormant company

Hi, if a company starts trading again and needs to get a VAT ID immediately, is there an expedited process to re-register their old VAT ID or do they have to go through the same VAT application process as everyone else? This link is for taxes and would notcover the reinstatement of a VAT number.
If you have deregistered the business then you will need to apply for a new VAT number using the normal VAT application process.
