I have been completing nil returns, as the business has stopped trading and the property is up for sale. However, I have omitted to claim any VAT against utility bills, service charges etc that have been paid whilst the property is empty and awaiting a sale completion. How far back can I claim back VAT paid and how do I go about doing this?

Hi,
If you have failed to recover input tax which you are entitled to recover then you will need to treat this as an error and there is a time limit of 4 years.
Please see the guidance below:
Correcting VAT errors on a return already submitted
Thank you.
