I am a canadian based sole proprietor of a business looking to sell digital art printed onto canvas using a uk based printing company who prints and ships my products to customers within the uk on an order to order basis. My question is with my product being made in the uk using a uk based printing business, will I need to register for VAT as a non-resident or will my sales need to pass a threshold before I am required to collect and remit VAT to the HMRC?

Hi,

If you are a non established business and making taxable supplies in the UK, then there would be no threshold to reach before having to register in the UK for VAT. You would need to register for VAT upon your first sale in the UK.

Who should register for VAT (VAT Notice 700/1)

Thank you.
