NI gaps while unemployed
Hi, I have been paying full NI contributions since I started working in 1989. In 2009 I was made redundant and didn't work during 2010. I decided not to be a burden on the state and didn't claim unemployment benefit, instead living off my redundancy payout. I have just checked my NI record and it states that I owe over £800 for the year I wasn't working. What can I do about this, as this isn't right? Surely I cannot be expected to pay £800 because I decided not to claim over £3k from the government previously? Thanks.
