Thank you for this response. I called the Helpline but unfortunately, was just given recorded information, without being able to speak to a person, regardless of which options I chose on the phone. It would be much quicker to pass on the specific reference number by talking to someone. Is there a number to ring where I could actually get through to a person to speak to? Failing this, is there an address to which I could write, in order to pass on the necessary information. Many thanks.

Hi, I have paid a voluntary payment to my national insurance to fill gaps in my national insurance. last week. However, I omitted the personal reference number on my payment which identified which payment I was making. Could you advise whether this will affect my payment or if there is a way in which I can inform HMRC NI online or by post of the number so that they can align the payment to my record correctly.
