Amendment to Self Assessment Tax Return
Dear HMRC, I submitted an amendment to my 2021/2022 Self Assessment Tax return online through my accountant. Despite doing so at the end of January 2024, HMRC hasn't processed my amendment yet. I’ve called HMRC, and the agent said there has been an error in the system, and therefore my amendment hasn't even been added to the queue for processing yet. The agents kindly sent multiple referrals and follow-up messages to the amendment team, but there hasn’t been any response. The change I need to make is to correct the input for Dividends from UK Companies (Box 4 on Page TR 3 of the SA100 Form). Consequently, some of the other values on the SA100 form, such as Total Tax and Student Loan Repayment Due, will also need adjustment. Since my amendment is not yet in the queue for processing, I am considering resubmitting it. As the deadline for online submission has passed (31st January 2024), I believe I will have to write to the HMRC by post. My accountant has already prepared the corrected SA100 Form and I can simply post this to the HMRC. Is that sufficient or do I need to post any additional documents? Your advice on this matter is greatly appreciated. Best regards, GDR -
Self-Assessment Amendment and Tax Refund
I'm awaiting a tax refund from my 2021/2022 Self Assessment, following an amendment submitted online via an accountant in January 2024. The purpose of this amendment was to correct errors and ensure the accuracy of my tax return. The amendment was submitted within the timeframe. Despite timely submission, HMRC hasn't issued the refund yet. I've called HMRC multiple times to resolve this matter; every time agents have consistently advised me to await a response within two weeks and to send follow-up messages to the amendment team, but no substantive response. Given the prolonged delay and the absence of a satisfactory resolution, I kindly request guidance on the appropriate process to escalate this matter and the relevant contact(s) with whom I should communicate to expedite the processing of my tax refund.
