RE: Double Taxation
Thank you for your answering about the reason for the delay. Could you possibly advise on the other questions I posed? I have been in touch with the Income Tax team. When I asked in early September if there was anyway to expedite the matter, I was told they would look into it and get back to me by first week of October. I have just received a letter saying it is being reviewed by our technical officers and that they are unable to give a better time scale. What's to review? Is it not obvious that it should be an NT tax code? -
Double Taxation
I am now retired and a US Citizen. I have an NT tax code for my NHS and OA Pension. On trying to access a small private pension I found I needed to get recertified. HMRC received the paperwork in early July and I am still awaiting the tax code to be changed. I am told January 2025. Firstly I would like to know why there is such a delay, it didn't take that long before? Secondly, is there anything that I can do to speed it up or at least have it confirmed that the paperwork is in order and there will be no further delays? Thirdly, if I chose to take out the pension and pay tax on it, how quickly once you process the paperwork would I get the tax back? Do you or the pension provider repay the tax. Finally, as the tax being with held is losing interest, does HMRC compensate for the loss of interest on tax withheld?
