RE: Automatically reinvested dividends: how taxed
Hi HMRC Admin 25, Thank you for your reply: "If the company automaticelly reinvests then you select no. If it has been your choice then you need to select yes." I interpret your answer as meaning: "If the ETF (exchange traded fund) automatically reinvests the dividends (the GIA account holder does not receive cash dividends), then the tax form answer is "NO". If the ETF distributed cash dividends into the GIA account and the account holder then reinvested those dividends into the ETF, then the tax form answer is "YES" I interpret the answer as NOT meaning that the choice to invest in the accumulating or distributing ETF is in some way relevant. Could you confirm? Thank you David -
"Did you receive dividends..." - is answer "Yes" or "No" for an Accumulating ETF Investment?
Good Afternoon. For a General Investment Account with an ETF investment in Accumulating Shares, in which the Account Holder receives no cash dividend into the General Investment Account, should one select "YES" or "No" to "Did you receive any dividends, for example, from UK companies, authorised unit trusts, open-ended investment companies (or dividends from foreign companies up to GBP500)?" on the self assessment tax form? Thank you David -
