  • Left the UK, but still working for a UK employer as a contractual employee

Hello HMRC Team, I have been working in the UK from start of 2023 till July 2024 on a graduate visa. Post that I left the UK (not planning to return anytime soon), and came back to my home country. Now its been more than 180 days since I have been residing in my home country, but I am still working for the same UK employer on contractual basis. I receive my payments in my UK bank account. Now for the financial year 5 Apr 2024 - 6 Apr 2025, I worked the first 3 months in the UK as a permanent salaried employee, but the remainder of the financial year I am and will be working as a contractual employee (receiving my payments in the UK bank account). I believe that my home country's tax laws are now applicable for me, as its been more than 180 days since I am staying and working from my home country. Q1: How do I notify HMRC about this change? Q2: And do I have to pay taxes to HMRC for the period Jul 2024-Apr 2025, even though I've not been in the UK in this time period. If yes, what is the procedure (shall I do a self assessment return)? Q4: How can I avoid double taxation, in both UK and my home country (note: there is a double taxation agreement between UK and my home country) Q5: How long can I keep working for the same UK employer on a contractual employee? Really appreciate your help in this matter. Thanks
