  • incorrect VAT amount debited by HMRC

On 6th October 2024, we reported the correct amount oweing (£4,620.38) for out VAT return (VAT for period 1 June 2024 to 31 August 2024). However, HMRC only direct debited part of the amount oweing (£1,062.26) and then proceeded to charge late penalties and interest on the remaining, despite sufficient funds being in the account to be debited. As soon as we received the first penalty letter, I called HMRC on 6th Nov 2024 about the incorrect amount that had been direct debited by HMRC. I was told the issue would be passed to HMRC accounting, but that in the meantime we should go ahead and pay the remaining amount oweing, plus any interest and penalties charged. We did this on 6th November 2024 (£3,558.12). However, you have subsequently charged additional interest and late penalties and sent another penalty letter dated 10th Nov 2024. Please correct the error in HMRC accounting and refund to us the interest and late penalty payments. Thank you.
