RE: Tax on an escrow amount when selling EMI shares
Hi, Again this does not answer the question. The link provided and associated links are about what information is shared outside the UK. This has, to my understanding, zero relevance to my question other than sharing one key word. My intention is not to be rude, I am simply curious, but are these responses partially AI generated? I ask because if that is the case then this process will not be able to provide me answers to my query. I am not looking for information I can already easily search for in the documentation on the gov website. Please can you answer my original question: Is the escrow amount income taxed or capital gains taxed? Thanks -
RE: Tax on an escrow amount when selling EMI shares
The link you provided just gives general info on EMI. It does not answer my question. Is the escrow amount to be treated as income or capital gains tax subject to the EMI rules. Thanks -
Tax on an escrow amount when selling EMI shares
Hi, I owned some shares in a former company I worked at that was sold to another company. The shares were part of an EMI scheme. My understanding is that this will be taxed at 10% capital gains tax (it is below the lifetime limit, I owned the shares for at least 2 years prior to it being sold, and it was not exercised at a discounted rate). As part of the sale I also received money from a "Minority Seller Escrow Amount", how should this be taxed. Is it declared as income and subject to income tax, or is it still part of the EMI scheme and only needs to be 10% capital gain taxed? Thanks
