  • Self Assessment tax penalty but paid tax based on simple assessment tax calculation

Hello - this last tax year I completed a self assessment tax return by mistake when I didn't need to and have now received a tax penalty charge which is to be paid by 18 April. I paid all the tax owing according to my simple tax assessment calculation on 31 January. My 'Check how much tax you paid' webpage, for tax year 6 Apr 22 to 5 Apr 23 states 'You do not owe any more tax. You have no more payments to make to HMRC.'. All my income is PAYE and is covered in my 'simple assessment tax calculation' - I did not need to complete a self assessment tax return. How can I fix this situation and get the penalty charge cancelled? Thanks.
