  • RE: Bonus paid late

Hi HMRC Admin I am hoping you can help me with a similar query. I have been on long-term sick leave since August 2023, and recently returned to work at the end of February. I received no earnings from February 2024 onwards. I was not informed by my employer that I accrued annual leave entitlement throughout the my sick period and only found out on my return to work, otherwise I would have 'taken' the days as earnings earlier. The company's leave year runs September - end August, and I have asked for the my leave accrued from period of September 2023 - September 2024 to be paid to me. My employer has approved this and agreed to make this lump sum payment. However the March payroll has closed, and they can only pay me for the annual leave in the next payroll date (end of April 2025) which would be in the next tax year. I believe my entitlement to these earnings should fall in the 24/25 tax year given that is when the annual leave and payment liability arose. Grateful for any help in clarifying this and my entitlement. If I am correct in that my entitlement was within the 24/25 tax year, what should my employer do if the payment can only be made in the next payroll (c. 30 April 2025).
