RE: appealing payments on account after ending self-employment and starting PAYE
Hi,
If you are confident that you know how much tax you will owe by the end of the 2024 to 2025 tax year, you can reduce your payments on account accordingly. You can do this through your personal tax account online, or by contacting our Self Assessment team.

The code used by your employer should be operated on a Month 1 basis, which ensures that you are neither overtaxed, nor use the tax free allowances that you may have already applied during your self employment. If your code is not issued on this basis, or you feel you are being overtaxed, contact us using the method above and we can review your code.

RE: Can't pay the tax I owe through my Personal Tax Account.
Hi,
You can pay by a cheque or postal order, made payable to 'HM Revenue & Customs only' with your National Insurance number afterwards. When you send your cheque, please also include a covering letter, giving your full name and address, National Insurance number, the amount of payment, the year the payment is for, and the reason for your making this payment.
Please send both to HMRC Direct, BX5 5BD.
Thank you. -
