  • Check if you need to send a Self Assessment tax return

Hi I am looking at your website to check if a family member needs to send a SA tax return. Question 5 says "Did you get more than £10,000 from dividends or savings and investments?" The options provided are: - Yes, I got more than £10,000 from savings and investments - Yes, I got more than £10,000 from share dividends - No If my family member earned exactly £10000 from savings and investments but also received several thousand pounds in income from dividends, do they need to submit a return? My strict reading is that the two categories of income are not aggregated, so they could potentially earn £10,000 in each category (i.e. total £20k) before triggering the requirement to submit an SA tax return. Is that correct?
