I helped my son to buy a Property due to separation form wife. He took out mortgage for half of the value. I then bought the property off him and I ended up paying the extra stamp duty. I asked solicitor at time if I could just lay the mortgage off and have the property transferred to me but I was told no. Was this information incorrect?
