  • Tax relief allowance

When claiming for tax relief, it says that you can claim via the tax relief page as long as "your total expenses claim for each tax year is £2,500 or less — if the amount is more than £2,500, you need to fill in a Self Assessment tax return" Does this mean the total amount paid at the time of the expenses cannot exceed £2500 or the amount that will hopefully be claimed back must be less than £2500 (e.g. 20% of the cost of the expenses eligible to be claimed from)? Thank you
