    Hi, I recently reported and paid cgt on a property sale, I now fear that I may have put my home address on the return instead of the sold property, is there a way to review what I submitted please?

    Surely Q4 is exactly that; so suggests that the answer is "yes" anyway??
  • submit self assessment or not?

    last year i submitted sa as my income was about £100 over pa limit. This year I sold interest in rental property for Circa 70,000, but my income will be below personal allowance. I declared and paid cgt within 60 days of sale. 1) Will i need to submit sa? 2) My wife didn't submit sa last year due to low income,same this year, but as she also sold her share in above property, also for 70K, declared and paid cgt, will she need to submit sa? I have had conflicting advice......

    Sorry, you don't address the scenario where costs of buying are unquestionable, but invoices lost over 20 years ..... can we estimate?

    As we bought this home 20+ years ago we no longer have record of purchase expenses.... but we did get environment search and local authority searches which we still have as proof, no idea what solicitor charged(no longer in business) so would there be an acceptable "ball park" estimate amount that would be acceptable to HMRC for cgt return? Cost was circa 115k.

    Do 1 and 2 both need to apply, or just either? Reply seems to contradict HMRC info which indicates: You must send a tax return if, in the last tax year (6 April to 5 April), any of the following applied: 1)you were self-employed as a ‘sole trader’ and earned more than £1,000 (before taking off anything you can claim tax relief on) 2)you were a partner in a business partnership 3)you had a total taxable income of more than £150,000 4)you had to pay Capital Gains Tax when you sold or ‘disposed of’ something that increased in value 5)you had to pay the High Income Child Benefit Charge Please confirm, do you have to complete SA form as per "4" above if CGT declared and paid during that tax year (within 60 days of property sale at above 50K), if the rest don't apply? (current yr 24/25)

    Self wife and disabled adult daughter live in, and share ownership of a home in which we live. Daughter wants to try independent living, if all 3 of us chip in to buy jointly another home for her where will we stand on CGT if we later decide to sell either one of the two homes if this doesn't work out for her?

    I (self only)made a capital gain in 23/24 on property, CG duly declared , and included on a one off SA as my income was slightly over personal allowance, all tax now paid. Part way through this current year self and wife will dispose of final rental property, will each declare sale within 60 days, pay cgt due; result will be my income at year end will be below personal allowance..... will I still be required to required to complete SA as I had a capital gain.... and will my wife be expected to complete a SA just for the one year even though her income is way below PA?
  • Property income stopping, allowances?

    I receive rental income from a property which I calculate using the " £1000 year expense allowance" scheme rather than declaring individual spending... works fine, but I intend selling the property half way through the financial year, rental income will of course be only half. Can I still claim the £1000 or do I have to apportion it? Most overheads and annual costs fall early in the year and will not be halved.

    in the calculation of CGT payable on a taxable property are the following expenses allowable: 1) upgrading to more energy efficient heating boiler where that which was replaced remained serviceable receipt available 2) replacing outdated electrical distribution board to bring up to current safety levels receipt available 3) an estimation of purchase costs over 20 years ago where records have been lost, but existence of documents indicate usual searches etc were made by a named solicitor who is no longer practicing or contactable
