  • Stamp duty - intent to use the property as main residence for first time buyer relief

My partner and I (unmarried) are approaching the purchase of residential property in the UK. My partner is a non-UK resident, who intends to move to the UK after the house is purchased. Neither of us have owned property anywhere in the world - so want to know if we can receive first time buyer relief for stamp duty An additional criterion for first-time buyer relief is that we intend to use the property as our main residence. My partner will not immediately live in the property following purchase, as she first need to apply for a visa for the UK and will move following that. Would the fact that she is unable to live in the property immediately preclude us from claiming first time buyer relief?
