  • Is my wife eligible for first time buyer stamp duty relief?

Hello, May I ask one question on my wife's eligibility of first time buyer stamp duty relief? My wife would like to buy a property under her own name at around £300,000. I am willing to support her and provide 50% of the funding as the gift. I would like to confirm her eligibility for the first-time buyer stamp duty relief. Here are the relevant details: 1) I have solely owned a property in Hong Kong. We lived together before. I finally sold the property and completed all transactions before the end of June 2024. 2) We moved to the UK in July 2024. 3) I am willing to financially support my wife to solely buy the property. I fully understand I won't be the property owner. She will use her savings and my financial support to buy the property. My financial support for the property purchase will be a gift. 4) We plan to live in the new property as our primary residence. 5) We intend to include my name on Council Tax bills, utility bills, water bills, etc. Since we have received different answers from my conveyancing solicitor, property agent and my friends, we would like to seek your comment and double confirm if my wife is eligible for the first-time buyer stamp duty relief based on the above details? Although my wife hopes to enjoy the relief, our priority is to ensure that we settle all the necessary taxes and fees involved in the process. Thank you very much!
