  • Employment expenses - accommodation

Hello, Last year I worked for a university on an eight-week fixed term contract. As the role was on-campus, I was required to move temporarily to the university city to work. I was offered a room in the university student accommodation. We had to pay full price + VAT on this accommodation, but were given a £100 weekly 'subsidy' towards it. However, this payment was just lumped in with our wages, which means it was taxed and we still ultimately had to pay the university the full amount of the accommodation. In total, this cost me £1536 for the eight weeks. Can I claim this as employment expenses? I've tried searching for the answer but, as always, the answers just add to the confusion.
