Thank you, but this really doesn't answer my question. I note the answer to the original poster's question, that it's the pension being taxed, not the beneficiary, but a pension doesn't have a tax code, and neither does a non-UK resident. I appreciate this forum, but it would be really helpful if specific answers could be given, rather than references to other pages which don't explain the situation very well, if at all. Thank you.

How does the pension pot get taxed, and at what rate, if the non-UK resident doesn't have a UK tax code?
