  • RE: Saving interest & Marriage allowance

Hello, Since my husband have to pay tax for the year 2023-2024, he has cancelled the transfer of the marriage allowance to me online last month but we found that it is only effective from 06/04/2025. Since the transfer of marriage allowance is still effective, could we continue to complete our 2023-2024 self-assessment return? If so, both our taxes would not be accurate for 2023-2024. Your advice please. Thank you very much.

  • Saving interest & Marriage allowance

Hello, Question 1: Saving interest My husband has retired for years, no pension and his only income is saving interest. If 2023-2024 earned interest was over his personal allowance (GBP 12570) plus personal saving allowance (GBP 1000), will he still get the starting rate for saving (GBP 5000) allowance? Question 2: Marriage allowance. a) My husband has no job income. Could he transfer the marriage allowance (GBP1260) to me (I'm a basic rate taxer payer) as his interest is above his personal allowance GBP12570? Or he can continue transfer marriage allowance to me only when the interest income is over GBP18570 (12570 + 1000 + 5000) for those not working? b) If he has to pay tax for the year 2023-2024finally, my husband has to cancel the marriage allowance to me? c) If the marriage allowance has to be cancelled, my husband can cancel it online directly for 2023-2024? Thank you very much. KInd regards,
