I'm in exact this situation now finding conflicting info, can I advise employer to contact HMRC employer helpline and calculate the net amount for me to repay them? My maternity pay period spans from August 2023-May 2024.

I have to repay the occupational maternity, not statutory maternity pay, due to a claw back clause in my contract. Employer is asking for it back in gross, but I received payments in net from August 2023- May 2024 (PAYE )I'm salaried employee and have 2 months notice period after maternity leave, where employer will claw back part of the pay that I owe from last two wages and a repayment plan for the remaining amount after I've left the company. Should I repay net amount?
