  • Claim Taxback on payment into pension

I am a salaried GP and my pension contributions are paid into my pension scheme pre-tax by my employer. Unfortunately, it has come to light that my employer didn't use the correct pension contribution banding percentage for my salary, so I have underpaid on my contributions for the previous 2 years. I therefore need to pay my employer back this money (as they have already now paid what is owed to the NHS pension provider/scheme). (Approximately £2000) As I have now already paid tax on the money received that I now have to pay back, is there any way I can claim tax back on my annual self assessment or can/should this be done another way please? thanks
