  • RE: Clarification on rules when receiving inheritance from abroad

Hello, I hope someone can help me with this query regarding inheritance tax. My father, who resides in Switzerland, is considering transferring ownership of his house in Switzerland to me and my sibblings. I am currently living in the UK. I would like to understand the tax implications of this transfer, specifically concerning inheritance tax. Will the property in Switzerland be subject to UK inheritance tax, given that I am domiciled in the UK? Are there any specific provisions or reliefs under the double tax treaty between Switzerland and the UK that I should be aware of to avoid double taxation? How is “immovable property” defined in this context, and are there any particular considerations for usufruct or other rights associated with the property? Any guidance or advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
