OK - that's good to know, thankyou. I'm also being asked for it via Worksome, which is a platform for freelancers. They've said they need it to confirm I'm self-employed? Is that right? -
Client asking for UTR reference
Hello. If I'm a sole-trader, and a client is asking for my UTR code, should I refuse to share this? My understanding is my UTR is private, and should not be shared. But there seems to be conflicting information online. Can you clarify: 1) Should we avoid sharing our UTR? 2) Why might a client ask for it or require it? 3) Do platforms like Worksome require a UTR to validate me as a business entity? Is there an alternative way to show I am registered as a sole trader?
