  • Confirmation of receipt of letter and further information sent to HMRC regarding NICs

Hi there, I submitted an online form CF83 that has been been recorded as received in my personal tax account online. I have since posted a registered letter, dated 07/05/24, to HMRC detailing some further information to be attached to the CF83. Can you tell me if the registered letter has been received by HMRC? As It hasn't been recorded as received on my tax account. I've received a letter regarding NICs for years 2015 - 2024. And I've been told that a subsequent letter was also sent to me on the 13/05/2024 regarding payments amounts for the years c. 2010 - 2024. I haven't received this latest letter so HMRC are sending me another copy in case it has been lost in the post. Can you tell me if this latest letter from HMRC is a response to the CF83 and also the additional information I sent by registered post? I don't want to start making payments before all the information I have submitted has been taken into consideration. Many thanks for your help
  • RE: Completing Form CF83

...also my partner has started completing CF83 but is unsure whether he is completing it correctly. His circumstances are that he lived and worked in the UK from 1998 to 2009, and became a UK permanent resident during that time. He was born in Australia and lived there until moving to the UK. Since leaving Australia in 2009 he has been living in Australia. My queries are: - should he add his first and earlier employment in the UK to the form? He has only added his last job which was for over three years before leaving the UK? - He has put he was ordinarily resident in the UK before leaving for Australia in 2009. Is this right taking into consideration he lived and worked there for over 10 years and was married to me? Also, the form asks when he started living in Australia - does this mean the date he went back to Australia? Or should he put his date of birth here? This part of the form doesn't seem to make sense, and I wonder if he has filled out something wrong. Thanks for your help
  • RE: Check Progress in Government Gateway for submitted CF83

Hi there, In addition to my latest post on the Forum 3 days ago, I have just received a letter in the post today from HMRC, BX9 1AN saying thank you for applying to pay class 2 voluntary contributions, and that I owe 1487.75 sterling for the period 2015 - 2024. This has confused me now, as I submitted an online application [CF83] to pay voluntary contributions in arrears from abroad a couple of weeks ago, which as I said in my previous post, has been noted [on my account on Gov.UK] as received, and a it also said it would not be processed until June 2025. Also I was hoping, seeing as the voluntary NIC arrears payment period for 2006 - 2016 has been extended until 2025. that I could make missing payments from c. 2010 [i moved to Australia late 2009] to now [or as recent as is permitted]. I'm wondering if I should just pay the class 2 amount? Especially as it says to pay as soon as possible. But I don't know where this leaves my CF83 application. Any advice you can provide is much appreciated
  • Completing Form CF83

Hi there, My partner has been advised by the Pensions Centre that he has gaps in his National Insurance Contributions and has over the minimum number of complete annual NIC payments to apply to make further payments in arrears from abroad. He is also waiting to receive a statement from the Pensions Centre in the post. He is completing a [postal] CF83 form and would like advice regarding the completion of employment dates. There are a couple of instances where is unsure of the precise dates, although he can make a close approximation. He has contacted the relevant employer HR departments re confirmation of the right dates but is finding they are taking a long time to get back to him. Would it be acceptable to complete dates as an approximation and note this on the form, and then post the confirmed dates at a later date to be attached to the submitted form? Any advice you can give is much appreciated.
  • RE: Check Progress in Government Gateway for submitted CF83

Hi there Thanks for your reply. I was just about to ring the Helpline today but can see that the online form has been registered as received on the 13/05/2024 now. I have a couple more queries - I checked when to expect a reply regarding the form and it says 5 June 2025. Taking this into consideration, can I check with you that I will still be able to make payments for the 2006 - 2016 period after the June 2025 deadline? I have also posted a recorded delivery/registered mail letter with a list of clarifications regarding employment on the submitted CF83 [quoting my ref no and NI number] so I am hoping it will be linked to my CF83 when received. Will there be confirmation of receipt of this letter too? Many thanks for your help Lulu
  • Check Progress in Government Gateway for submitted CF83

Hi there, I submitted an online CF83 application to make voluntary National Insurance Contributions whilst abroad a week ago. However, I have looked at Check Progress in the Government Gateway https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/ and there is nothing to say it has been received. It says if you have submitted a form online ' it can take a few hours' to see it. Thanks for your help Lucy
